A very original belt. Tutorial.

If you followed the series of posts of the previous dress, you noticed that when I finished sewing the "Cherries and Toffee Dress" I spoke to sew a belt, but there was enough material for it, so I thought of making a something original belt ...
Well, I made the belt, the main reason not to use this along with the dress is very obvious...
I was out and I got carried away by the excitement of being embroidering... so when I finished the belt and put it on the mannequin with the dress, they just could not bring together, it appears that both will fight each (dress and belt) wanted to take ownership and divorce that ended... each one separately.
But I want to state that this belt is so beautiful, (I promise that photos don´t do it justice) that right now I´m sewing a dress only to use with it ... so this will be in the next post...
For now, I want to share a tutorial fo how I made the belt with recycled materials that are sure to call your attention much... Here we go...

Si usted siguió la serie de posts del vestido anterior, habrá notado que cuando yo acabé de coser el vestido "Cherries and Toffee" yo hablaba de coser un cinturón , sin embargo no había tela suficiente para ello, así que yo pensé en hacer un cinturón algo original....
Bueno, yo hice el cinturón, la razón principal de no usar este junto con el vestido es muy obvia...
Se me fue la pinza, se me fue la mano y me dejé llevar por el entusiasmo de estar bordando... así que cuando yo terminé el cinturón y lo puse en el maniquí con el vestido, simplemente no se podían llevar juntos, parece que ambos se pelearan, cada uno (vestido y cinturón) querían llevar el protagonismo y aquello terminó divorcio ... cada uno por separado.
Pero yo quiero dejar constancia de que este cinturón es tan bonito, (yo prometo que las fotos no le hacen justicia) que en estos momentos yo estoy cosiendo un vestido solamente para usar con él.... así que esto será en el próximo post...
Por ahora, yo quiero compartir un tutorial de la forma en que yo hice el cinturón, con materiales reciclados que seguramente van a llamar mucho tu atención... Vamos allá...

For starters, I had this little piece of fabric only for the entire belt, so the first thing was ironing fusible interlining on the wrong side of the fabric to have some stiffness, then I made a drawing-doodle on the idea of embroidery that I wanted to get and transferred it to the fabric, I started embroidering the branches with embroidery thread with chain stitch and small flower buds with organdy ribbon and knot stitch.

Para empezar, yo contaba con este pequeño pedazo de tela solamente para todo el cinturón, así que lo primero fue planchar un poco de entretela termoadhesiva en el revés de la tela para tener algo de rigidez, después hice un dibujo-garabato sobre la idea del bordado que yo quería conseguir y lo transferí a la tela, empecé bordando las ramas con hilo de bordar y punto de cadeneta, después los pequeños capullos de flor con cinta de organdí y punto de nudo.

I went on embroidering with ribbons in very soft colors the rest of flowers, (sorry for the poor quality of the photos, they were taken at night with flash) and ended up making the leaves with green ribbon.

Seguí bordando con cintas en colores muy suaves el resto de las flores, (lo siento por la mala calidad de las fotos, fueron tomadas en la noche, con flash) y terminé haciendo las hojas con cinta verde.

Once finished, I embroidered just like the other side, well, as well as I could... I embroidered just in the center a rose with organza ribbon using the spider stitch.

Una vez terminado, bordé el otro lado igual, bueno, todo lo igual que pude... en el centro bordé una rosa con cinta de organdí utilizando el punto de araña.

En los extremos, cortar suavemente los bordes del plástico para conseguir que termine con el mismo tamaño que el elástico cosido en los extremos, en la foto se puede apreciar mejor lo que yo intento explicar.

I used a piece of velvet cut on the bias to get them to adapt to the shape of the belt smoothwrinkles, put the piece with the ends tucked inside, pinnen and hand sewing invisible stitch.

Una vez terminado, es el momento de sujetar con una costura a máquina todo el contorno del cinturón, usando una aguja gruesa y cosiendo despacio es muy fácil, la máquina se desliza y cose perfectamente sobre él.

Yo utilicé un trozo de terciopelo cortado al bies para conseguir que se adaptara a la forma del cinturón sin problemas de arrugas, colocar la pieza con los bordes metidos hacia dentro, sujetos con alfileres y coser a mano con puntada invisible.

Dormir tranquilamente las noches enteras sin tener que preocuparnos de llegar a fin de mes o pagar las facturas, porque para eso estaba papá...
Caer enfermos y tener mimos y cuidados sin preocuparnos de faltar al trabajo y tener que soportar los comentarios del jefe al día siguiente...

Friday hat VII

Hey! It´s very cold! Europe is going through a Siberian cold wave and this small island reaches the tail of this cold air, so this is the perfect excuse to take to the streets with this beautiful 30s inspired hat.

Oye! Hace mucho frío! Europa está pasando una ola de frío siberiano y a esta pequeña isla llega la cola de este aire frío, así que la excusa perfecta para sacar a la calle este hermoso sombrero de inspiración años 30.

Although I uses this outfit the last Saturday, I haven´t time to upload it here before, but I do want´t to miss the opportunity to add another number to the series of "Friday hat" that I started last year.

Aunque este outfit se lució el sábado, realmente yo no he tenido tiempo de subirlo aquí antes, pero yo no quiero perder la oportunidad de añadir otro número a la serie de "Friday hat" que yo comencé el pasado año.

Freezing cold in the morning inspired me to use this beautiful brooch , it reminds me of ice...

El frío helado de la mañana me inspiró para usar este hermoso broche, me recuerda al hielo...

This is one of those few times when I´m wearing black, but I recognize that this color harmonizes well with low temperatures...

However, breathing fresh clean air is always comforting to soul....

"Cherries and Toffee" Dress. Finished.

I feel I´ve taken forever to finish this dress, but it wasn´t because the dress will need many hours of work, really it took me longer to embroider it that in altered patterns, cut and sew... simply have been other littles things in between that have slowed this last stage of the preparation.

Siento que he tardado una eternidad en acabar este vestido, pero no ha sido porque el vestido necesitara muchas horas de trabajo, en realidad yo tardé más tiempo en bordarlo que en modificar los patrones, cortar y coser... simplemente han habido otras pequeñas cosas en medio que han ralentizado esta última etapa de la confección.

The dress has some changes to the original design, here, but all this has come as a result of the small amount of fabric available for it ... so I wanted the skirt was cut on the bias to get this beautiful flow, this conditioned to be a little shorter than I would have liked, nor is there enough material for a peplum hanging from the waist.

All these restrictions are a lesser evil because the embroidery on the chest gets overshadow everything else, I´m in love with this elegant embroidery, on the photo above you can see the wrong side of this hand made embroidery.

Todas estas restricciones son un mal menor porque el bordado que tiene el vestido sobre el pecho consigue eclipsar todo lo demás, yo estoy enamorada de este elegante bordado, en la foto de arriba se puede ver el revés de este bordado hecho a mano.

This time I used a slight variation to lining the dress, adding facing neck on the lining , this avoids the tedious task of ironing the interfacing , it´s a fast and effective method that I found here, I remember that I found this link through a sewing blog, but my memory fails at this time.

Esta vez yo usé una pequeña variante para forrar el vestido, añadiendo la vista del cuello sobre el forro del vestido, esto evita la tediosa tarea de planchar entretela en estas vistas, es un método rápido y efectivo que yo encontré aquí , yo recuerdo haber encontrado este enlace a través de un blog, pero mi memoria falla en este momento.

Of course, this dress is crying out for a belt, there isn´t enough fabric to make a belt in one piece only, so I have prepared an original belt with a small piece of fabric of yoke and sleeves, however, this belt is so special that I think deserves a separate post with tutorial included.

I´m looking forward to next weekend to wear it and my thoughts when I go to sleep revolve around accessories that I could use it... and the next project is tormenting me and wants to come to light as soon as possible...

Back... Friday hat VI

I had not yet had a chance to wear the hat I sewed last spring, a short memory here, I had forgotten in my closet a suit (jacket and pants), jacket is lined but no pants, so this was years in my closet waiting for a liner that never came, so I decided to use the pants to make this hat.

Aún no había tenido oportunidad de usar el sombrero que yo cosí la primavera pasada, un breve recuerdo aquí, yo tenía olvidado en mi armario un suit de chaqueta y pantalón, la chaqueta si está forrada, pero el pantalón no, así que esto estuvo años en el fondo del armario esperando un forro que nunca llegó, por lo que yo decidí usar el pantalón para hacer este sombrero.

This ties the series I started last year to wear hats, (which I love them), the excuse was that it´s a rainy day today, so a walk in a beautiful village in the north of the island became a little very rewarding.

"Cherries and toffee" dress. Embroidering....

Starting over... I had lost my sewing mojo, no, it´s just that sometimes there are other things that require more attention at certain times of life, but I´m here again looking forward to sewing accumulated.

I had planned to sew and embroider this dress from 40s, this is a copy that I made a few years ago, about ten years ago, an elderly lady very kindly lent me some magazines to share with me such beautiful treasures, I just have a few photocopies of that illustrations of clothing and embroidery designs, that means no patterns of dresses, so I have to "invent" on the drawing.

Comenzar de nuevo... No es que yo hubiese perdido mis ganas de coser, no, es simplemente que a veces hay otras cosas que requieren más atención en momentos determinados de la vida, pero aquí estoy otra vez con muchas ganas de costura acumuladas.
Yo tenía había planeado coser y bordar este vestido de finales de los años cuarenta, esto es una fotocopia que yo hice hace algunos años, quizá diez años atrás, de unas revistas que me prestó muy amablemente una señora anciana para compartir conmigo tan hermosos tesoros, yo solamente tengo unas pocas fotocopias de las ilustraciones de los vestidos y el dibujo para bordar a tamaño natural, eso significa que no hay patrones de los vestidos, así que simplemente tengo que "inventar" sobre el dibujo.

I chose a shade of cherry red fabric for the dress, there are about one meter and half of this fabric and some caramel pieces cut for the yoke and sleeves, so I´ll have to do some juggling with the cutting of patterns for get all pieces fit because I have planned to cut the skirt on the bias.

I´m still deciding whether to make the piece that leaves the waist, which seems to be some kind of pockets hanging there, I will decide along the way.

Elegí un retal de tela en color rojo cereza para el vestido, hay cerca de un metro y medio de esta y algunos trozos cortados en color caramelo para el canesú y las mangas, así que tendré que hacer algunos malabares con el corte de los patrones para conseguir encajar las piezas porque yo tengo planeado cortar la falda al biés.
Aún estoy decidiendo si hacer la pieza que sale de la cintura, lo que parece ser alguna clase de bolsillos colgando de allí, lo decidiré a lo largo del camino.

I started copying the drawing in tissue paper and place it on the front of a basic pattern in my size body, in this way, I can decide where to cut the line that separates the yoke (toffee fabric) and front (cherry red fabric)

Then I drew the line on the pattern to separate the two pieces, so it´s ready to cut into the two fabrics...

Comencé copiando el dibujo en papel de seda y colocarlo sobre el delantero de un patrón básico de cuerpo en mi talla, de esta forma, yo puedo decidir donde hacer la línea de corte que separa el canesú ( tela color caramelo) y el delantero (tela rojo cereza).
Entonces dibujé la linea sobre el patrón para separar las dos piezas, así que ya está listo para cortar en las dos telas.

So that once together, I get this... the following step is replacing the embroidery pattern to the selected location along the line joining the two fabrics and tracing over them, which gave me "enough war", it was as a toothache trying to make the drawing is transferred on the bulk of the union.

For now, this is what I got, hand embroidery is quite slow, in response to my dear Irene, but it´s a beautiful work and well worth the time invested in it, satisfaction of seeing how the drawing is formed with threads is as gratifying....

It seems that everything is back to normal, step by step... this means I have a lot of photos to show you and many things that have accumulated in my computer and my brain respectively.

For starters, I´ll have to sort the data trying to not make a mess and get as far as possible a coherent post.

Last Christmas was really a delight, I spent a long time for walk with family, baking, prepare gifts to hand and enjoy all the possible hours of the company of family and friends, that means less consumption and I think we have all gained by the approach, less stress.

Estas pasadas Navidades fueron realmente una delicia, yo dediqué mucho tiempo a pasear con la familia, hornear, preparar regalos a mano y disfrutar de todas las horas posibles de la compañía de los familiares y amigos, eso se traduce en menos consumismo y yo creo que todos hemos salido ganando con el planteamiento, menos stress.

A good time was dedicated to walk and discover how each year the " Sand Bethlehem" is usually made on the beach in the capital, as its name implies , this Bethlehem is made entirely of sand on the beach and you can walk inside it.

Un buen rato lo dedicamos a pasear y descubrir como cada año, el Belén de Arena que suele hacerse en la playa de la capital, como su nombre indica, este Belén está hecho totalmente de arena de la playa y se puede pasear dentro de él.

It was fun to see the frame that made my husband of this photo, you can see "light rays" of the star right behind my head... so this was the subject of all sorts of jokes...

Ultimamente, tengo la sensación de empezar todos los post de la misma forma, pidiendo disculpas por la falta de tiempo para dedicar a los blogs, pero si usted es madre de familia, esposa, cocinera, trabajadora, preparadora de regalos hechos a mano, con uno o varios hobbies que le quitan el sueño, y además bloguera, entonces usted seguramente comprenderá mi falta de tiempo en estas fechas tan especiales....

For this dress I chose a cherry red piece of fabric from my stash for the dress and some scraps left over from a previous project in caramel color, the latter is for the yoke and sleeves of the dress, matching again with the colors of the last bag I sewed.

The red fabric is one meter and half, and caramel- colored fabric remnants are small bits and pieces, so I´ll have to juggle to cut the dress with so little fabric, but every effort will be worthwhile for the showcasing the beautiful embroidered that will look the dress on the junction of yoke.

Para este vestido yo elegí un trozo de tela de mi stash en rojo cereza para el vestido y algunos trozos sobrantes de un proyecto anterior en color caramelo, esto último será el canesú y las mangas del vestido, jugando otra vez con los colores del último bolso que yo cosí.
El retal de la tela roja mide un metro y medio, y los retales de color caramelo son pequeños trozos sueltos, así que yo voy a tener que hacer malabarismos para cortar el vestido con tan poquita tela, pero todo esfuerzo valdrá la pena para el lucimiento del bonito bordado que lleva el vestido en la unión del canesú.

I´m sure we´ve all been caught in the nets of Mad Men, recognize this spectacular dress....

Peggy wears this dress in a scene where she has a meeting with the pastor of her church, I remember that it´s in the second season of this serie, episode 4.

Well, you can imagine my surprise when I was watching the movie "The Help" this week... I immediately recogized the dress that one of the minor characters wore in this film...

The bag of my dreams... with tutorial!

I can´t avoid it... I keep seeing things beyond what my eyes show me...

No puedo evitarlo... No dejo de ver cosas más allá de lo que me muestran mis ojos...

It all started when Mena gave us the sewing theme for this week, recycle something household linen to give a new life...

Well, this is a corner of my home, when I bought these cushions last year, I thought that they were so nice to match with armchairs in my living room... I put them on theirs site and enjoyed the wonderful feel of getting the perfect touch that I´ve been looking for.

So ... an idea struck my mind at night, when I was trying to sleep... Hey! these cushions ... a bag would be great with them!

Todo empezó cuando Mena nos dió el tema para coser esta semana, reciclar algo que tenemos como ropa de hogar para darle una nueva vida...
Bien, este es un rincón de mi hogar, cuando yo compré estos cojines el año pasado pensé que estaban tan bonitos a juego con los sillones de mi sala de estar... yo los coloqué en su sitio y disfruté de la maravillosa sensación que da conseguir el toque perfecto que llevaba tanto tiempo buscando.
Entonces... una idea asaltó mi mente por la noche, cuando yo estaba intentando dormir... Hey! esos cojines ... seria genial un bolso con ellos!

So, next day I returned to the store for another couple of cushion covers like those that resting in my room, that was some time ago and now I´ve found an opportunity to return to the idea.

I looked up the cushion cover (the partner is kept waiting for another time), a bag closure and burlap fabric scrap rigid enough to give "body" to the bag.

Así que al día siguiente, yo volví a la tienda a por otra pareja de fundas de cojín igual que las que reposaban en mi salón, eso fue hace algún tiempo y ahora he encontrado la ocasión de volver al tema.
Busqué la funda de cojín (la pareja está guardada esperando para otra ocasión) , un cierre de bolso y un retal de tela arpillera bastante rígida para dar "cuerpo" al bolso.

First, I cut the bottom of the cushion piece that will then be for the handles.

Primero yo corté el trozo inferior del cojín que servirá después para las asas.

Then, I cut off the top edge seam too, but left intact side seams, with two pieces of equal size to the cushion on burlap fabric, I placed panels as a sandwich and sewed three sides, leaving only one open up.

Entonces yo corté la costura del borde superior también, solamente dejé intactas las costuras laterales, con dos trozos de igual tamaño que el cojín en la tela arpillera coloqué los paneles como un sanwich y cosí los tres lados, dejando solamente uno arriba abierto.

Then, I made another same piece, same size on fabric, it´s lining of the bag. On the bottom corners, sew diagonally to get what will be the bottom of the bag.

Después, hice otra pieza igual, del mismo tamaño en tela que será el forro del bolso. En las esquinas del fondo, coser en diagonal para conseguir lo que será el fondo del bolso.

In the lining, I sewed a piece of cover with a cardboard rectangular thick enough, for stability at the bottom of the bag. Just sew on the wrong side of the lining.

En el forro, yo cosí un trozo de funda con un rectángulo de cartón bastante grueso para conseguir estabilidad en el fondo del bolso. Solamente coser los laterales por el revés del forro.

Now, I have the piece of the bag (cushion), a piece same lining and at the closed I managed to sew strips of fabric that will serve as a junction between the handle and rest of the bag.

At the bag piece (cushion), I brushed the tops turning the edges of the fabric in and sew a stitch with machine.

Ahora yo tengo la pieza del bolso (cojín) , una pieza igual de forro y en el cierre yo me las ingenié para coser tiras de tela que servirán de unión entre este asa y el resto del bolso.
En la pieza del bolso (cojín), he pulido los bordes superiores girando los bordes de la tela hacia dentro y pasando un pespunte con la máquina.

Then I sewed the bag closure to the edge, to achieve this, it took tons of patience and some broken needles on the road.

Después, yo cosí el cierre al borde del bolso, para conseguir esto hizo falta toneladas de paciencia y algunas agujas que se rompieron en el camino.

It´s almost... place the lining sack inside the bag and hand sewing around the edge...

Ya casi está... colocar el saco de forro dentro del bolso y coser a mano todo el borde ...

To hide this hand stitch, I glued a strip of trimming over the seam and stitched handles with the piece that I cut the beginning.... and Voila!!

Para ocultar este pespunte a mano, yo pegué una tira de pasamanería encima de la costura y cosí asas con el trozo que corté al principio... Voila!!

I have in my closet a new winter bag...

Yo tengo en mi armario un nuevo bolso para el invierno...

And of course, I´m going to the bed tonight looking mentally for clothes that I can use with it... or maybe I can make a new dress to achieve the perfect outfit... Yay.... I would love to play with these colors in my wardrobe...

"Second opportunity" Dress. Mood of colors.

I was always a woman of colors. I can understand perfectly well that there are people who like to wear black, even I know women who have theri wardrobe fully in black and a touch of color without shrillness... this isn´t my case...

Siempre fui una mujer de colores. Yo puedo entender perfectamente que hay personas que les gusta el negro para vestir, incluso conozco mujeres que tienen su guardarropa integralmente en color negro y algún toque de color sin estridencias... este no es mi caso...

For me, color is an essential element in Mother Nature as it´s also in my wardrobe.

Can you imagine how sad and lonely without color would be Universe??

I can´t conceive a world of gray monotony, without the great variety of colors that our eyes overlook..

Para mi, el color es un elemento esencial en la Madre Naturaleza como lo es también en mi vestuario.
Te imaginas qué triste y desolado sería un Universo sin color??
Yo no puedo concebir un mundo de una monotonía grisácea, sin la magnífica variedad de colores que asoman a nuestros ojos....

Changing blue sky and sea, the endless green of countryside, golden sand on beach, the explosion of colorful flowers ranges... And women, whether value is the color of skin, red lips, hair part....

Los azules cambiantes del cielo y el mar, los verdes infinitos del campo, el oro de la arena en la playa, la explosión de gamas coloreadas de las flores... Y en la mujer, tanto valor tiene el colorido de la piel, el rojo de los labios, el marco del cabello....

Since time immemorial, colors have meanings properly awarded, so yellow is the color associated with sun, therefore it symbolizes the radiant light, joy and encouragement.

Red is related to fire and therefore it suggests heat and excitement.

Blue is the color of sky and water, so it´s serenity and freshness.

Green is the color of Mother Nature, so it´s quiet and comforting.

Desde tiempos inmemoriables, los colores han tenido significiados propiamente adjudicados, así el amarillo es el color relacionado con el sol, por lo tanto simboliza la luz radiante , la alegría y el estímulo.
El rojo está relacionado con el fuego y por lo tanto sugiere calor y excitación. El azul es el color del cielo y el agua, así que es serenidad y frescor. El verde es el color de la madre naturaleza, así que es tranquilo y reconfortante.

I will not deny that there are black clothes in my wardrobe, but these were intended primarily to serve as "support" to others with striking color to combine and serve as a balance between both colors.

"Second opportunity" Dress. Tutorial for a perfect fit of Burdastyle May/2011, # 128.

Surely, you are wondering why this dress is called "Second opportunity"... Well, this has a logical explanation... I sewed this pattern for the first time in late September, the model is a pattern of Burdastyle May/2011, #128.

The pattern was not widely accepted and several sewers thought is best to change back a little to get a beautiful dress in Joan Holloway´s style (Mad Men), I was one on those who saw beyong the puff back and the photo (not very favored) of the magazine where the pattern appears. However, this type of puff back , was very popular in 60´s and I think this is just one of things that I like about it....

Seguramente, usted está preguntándose porqué este vestido se llama "Segunda oportunidad"... Bien, esto tiene una explicación lógica... yo cosí por primera vez este vestido a finales de Septiembre, el modelo es un patrón de Burdastyle Mayo/2011, #128.
El patrón no tuvo mucha aceptación y varias compañeras pensaron que lo mejor era alterar un poco la espalda para conseguir un hermoso vestido al más puro estilo de Joan Holloway (Mad Men), yo fuí una de las personas que vió más allá de la espalda abullonada y la foto (no muy favorecida) de la revista donde aparece el patrón. Así que aquel primer vestido fué "Sueños Lavanda".
Sin embargo, yo sabía que este vestido podía ser realmente bonito con algunas pequeñas modificaciones y decidí que tenía que coserlo otra vez llevando mis ideas a la práctica...
Además, este tipo de espalda fruncida fué muy popular en los años 60 y yo creo que esta es precisamente una de las cosas que me gusta de él...

So with this in my mind, I knew that sewing the dress as the pattern isn´t very flattering, then my mind began to imagine that if there was any way to "hold" the front of the dress to my body, would be great and it does not look like a "sack" without form, I don´t know if this makes sense to you... The main idea was that the dress stuck to my body on the front and back completely limp.

Así que con esta perspectiva, yo sabía que coser el vestido tal y como viene el patrón no era muy halagador para la silueta, entonces mi mente empezó a imaginar que si había alguna forma de "sujetar" la parte delantera del vestido al cuerpo, estaría genial, el vestido así no parecería un "saco" sin forma, yo no sé si esto tiene sentido para usted... la idea principal era que el vestido quedara pegado al cuerpo en el delantero y completamente flojo en la espalda.

This is the inner aspect of the dress finished, the "extra piece" of the back, attached to the front by side seams get a very flattering "adjusting" the dress to the body on the front. In addition, the fabric of this piece contains elastane, so comfort assured.

"Moonlight Dress" on a sunny day.

Sewing is one of the most rewarding experiences available, it can only be experienced by people who sew.. Use fabric , thread and your imagination to shape getting an idea, has always been exciting.

I have a friend who enjoys making jewerly, so some time we have gone shopping together, we ended up hopelessly in a craft store and fabric store later...

Coser es una de las experiencias más gratificantes que existen, eso solamente pueden experimentarlo las personas que cosen... Conseguir dar forma a una idea con telas e hilo siempre ha sido excitante.
Tengo una amiga que disfruta mucho haciendo bisutería, así que alguna vez que hemos ido juntas de compras, terminamos irremediablemente en una tienda de manualidades y una tienda de telas después...

I´m always amazed when I accompanied her and can spend hours between beads and chains, always imagining this necklace or those earrings.. sometimes she lets out a sigh when watching a small bowl with pearls and immediately she imagines that this would look great with those beads that she has at home, combined with a piece of chain and tassels that she bought some weeks ago..

Immediately, the beautiful necklace takes shape in her mind and she tries to transmit her enthusiasm for this new item that will "make" as she arrives at her home...

En su cabeza el hermoso collar cobra forma enseguida y trata de contagiarme su entusiasmo por esa nueva pieza que va a "fabricar" en cuanto llegue a casa...

And I really enjoy sharing her enthusiasm, simply for the pleasure of accompanying and that she feels understood... and then comes the time to visit the fabric store...

Y yo disfruto mucho compartiendo su entusiasmo, simplemente por el placer de acompañarla y que se sienta comprendida... y entonces llega el momento de visitar la tienda de telas...

And then I scamper around stacks of fabric, enjoying touch them, feeling the texture of each, to dream that this wool fabric would be great for a coat that i have time wishing... and those poly-cotton could be quickly converted into a dream dress because it does not crease and would be the "touch" with those shoes that are kept waiting at my wardrobe for that wondeful combination of color....

Y yo correteo alrededor de las pilas de telas, disfrutando con tocarlas, sentir la textura de cada una, soñar con que esta lana sería estupenda para ese abrigo que llevo tiempo deseando... y aquel poli-algodón podría transformarse rápidamente en un vestido ideal porque no se arruga y sería el punto con los zapatos que están guardados esperando la combinación maravillosa para ese color...

And finally, I end up with a few yards of fabric in a bag and a huge smile of happiness shared with my friend , she tells me.. "It happens that when you look at a piece of fabric and imagine a dress or blouse.. and I can´t see more than a piece of fabric..."

And then I say taht just happens to me with beads... I only see a piece of stone where she sees a beautiful necklace...

Y finalmente, termino con unos pocos metros de tela en una bolsa y una inmensa sonrisa de felicidad compartida con mi amiga que me cuenta... "si es que tú miras un trozo de tela y te imaginas un vestido o una blusa ... y yo no puedo ver más que un trozo de tela.."
Y entonces yo respondo que igual me pasa a mi con los abalorios... que yo solamente veo un trozo de piedra donde ella ve un maravilloso collar...

"Moonlight Dress"

I´m really proud of this dress for several reasons... Chief among them is that aside from the fabric that was in my cave sewing about a year, all other components that I used to get the desired effect are recycled.

Realmente, estoy orgullosa de este vestido por varias razones... la principal de todas es que aparte de la tela que llevaba en mi cueva de costura alrededor de un año, todo los demás componentes que yo usé para conseguir el efecto deseado son reciclados.

Dress is a nice pattern Burdastyle 10/2011, which I had fallen in love since I had this magazine in my hands, it has some "slight air" Chanel style in the original model.

El vestido es un bonito patrón de Burdastyle 10/2011 que me había enamorado desde que yo tuve la revista en mis manos, tiene un ligero aire estilo Chanel en el modelo original.

But I wanted to give my personal style to ir, so I did some modifications, using a lace piece of fabric left over from a project very far back in time. I have a little hobby to keep anything that might have a second chance, so my sewing cave is full of boxes with small pieces of fabric, ribbons, lace, buttons , zippers and anything you can imagine related to the sewing, so I feel a great happiness when I use any of these things...

The white collar was made with a pique fabric piece that I found in the box of scraps, strips of lace at the hem and sleeves are the excess when I sewed my apron traditional Canarian and buttons that adorn the front center are part of a box full of buttons that I unstitched at old garments...

Changes to the original pattern... Well, I adjusted my dress, Burdastyle pattern is slightly evasee and zipper on the back ends just at the waist, the small white band is sewn at the waist, at the end of zipper... well, I did this, add two verticals darts on the back of the dress and accentuate the waist line side seams, making it necessary to place a longer zipper that ends at hip area, I solved the problem of the white band sewing a button next to the other side and made a buttonhole ... as a picture is worth a thousand words, a photo below...

Los cambios con el original... bien, yo entallé un poco el vestido, el patrón de Burdastyle es ligeramente evaseé y la cremallera en la espalda termina justamente en la cintura, la pequeña banda blanca está cosida en la cintura, al final de la cremallera... lo que yo hice fue añadir dos pinzas verticales en la espalda del vestido y acentuar la linea de cintura en las costuras laterales, lo que obliga a colocar una cremallera más larga que termina en la zona de cadera, yo solucioné el problema de la banda blanca cosiendo un lado con el botón azul y el otro lateral hice un ojal , como una imagen vale más que mil palabras...

The name that I chose for this dress was inspired by the color blue so deep, it reminds me of a dark night lit by incursions of white accents , so "Moonlight" is set to the essence of this dress for me...

And now, as always, something as much fun as going to bed thinking about accessories that can go well with this dress with inspired 60s...

El nombre que yo elegí para el vestido fue inspirado por el color azul tan profundo que me recuerda una noche oscura iluminada por las incursiones de los detalles en blanco, así que "Luz de Luna" se ajusta a la esencia de este vestido para mi...

I made it!! A corset!

And then I got this ... the result is relatively good, but there is much work for make, here.

If you did not read the previous post, Sew Weekly suggested the theme "pin up" this week... what became a real challenge for me... nothing further from me than a pin up... and I immediately associated the item with a corset.

After the photo that I showed in the previous post, I went back to get into the seams of the waist, comments of all the wonderful girls with more experience in this than I did make me rethink the theme and this is the result. So thank you very much to Lynne, dfr2010, Esther, Rachel and Ewa for help, and all the other ladies for the comments of support.

Few ornaments and a splash of color did the rest.

Now a bit of humor....

Y entonces yo conseguí esto... el resultado es relativamente aceptable, pero queda mucho por trabajar.
Si usted no leyó el post anterior, Sew Weekly propuso el tema "pin up" esta semana... lo que se convirtió en un verdadero reto para mi... no hay nada más lejano de mi que una pin up... y yo asocié inmediatamente el tema con un corsé.
Después de la foto que yo mostré en el post anterior, yo volví a entrar en las costuras de la cintura, los comentarios de todas las maravillosas chicas con más experiencia en esto que yo hicieron que yo replanteara el tema y este es el resultado. Así que muchas gracias a Lynne, dfr2010, Esther, Raquel y Ewa.
Unos pocos adornos y una pincelada de color hicieron el resto.
Ahora un poco de humor....

And this is my pathetic attempt to emulate a pin up... at home, this resulted in fits of laughter and I commented that the corset had a rockabily "air", while my son thought that I was more like Lily Munster, what else..

As I said, this isn´t the last attempt, I´m planning to do a few corsets more with different patterns drawn for me to go play with the possibilities.

It was destiny....

Definitely, I´m the furthest thing from a pin up there, I was never a woman with curves, or when I was twenty years old.. now less... although it´s said that nature is wise, in this case isn´t well distributed, someone made a mistake and handed around my waist that I had to have been hip.

When I was a teenager and my body began to develop, and toyed with the idea of a tiny waist in my mind... I was hoping that the contours of my chest and hips began sometime in the time away from my waist, poor deluded... outlines the three continued to grow at the same time together in the proportions, as if each one dragging the other two inevitably.

But I´m sure like may women , I´ve been longing for life a corset. It´s one of those hidden desires that have always been there, lurking.. but never got the chance to make one, there was always something more urgent to sew.

Definitivamente, yo soy lo más alejado a una pin up que existe, nunca fui una mujer con curvas, ni cuando tenía veinte años... ahora menos... aunque se dice que la naturaleza es sabia, en este caso no está bien repartida, a alguien se le fue la mano y repartió alrededor de mi cintura lo que tenía que haber sido cadera. Cuando yo era adolescente y mi cuerpo empezaba a desarrollarse, ya jugaba con la idea de una cintura minúscula en mi mente... yo tenía la esperanza que los contornos de pecho y cadera comenzaran alguna vez en el tiempo a alejarse de mi contorno de cintura, pobre ilusa... los tres contornos siguieron creciendo a la vez, juntos en las proporciones , como si cada uno arrastrara a los otros dos inevitablemente.
Sin embargo yo estoy segura que igual que muchas mujeres , llevo toda la vida suspirando por un corsé. Es uno de esos deseos ocultos que siempre han estado ahí, acechando... pero nunca llegaba la oportunidad de hacer uno, siempre había algo más urgente para coser.

I bought front closures in house of Lady Marmalade for over a year and the rest of materials are supplies of my sewing cave.

Compré los cierres delanteros en la casa de Lady Mermelada hace más de un año y el resto de los materiales son suministros de mi cueva de costura.

For now , here on what I have, the corset hasn´t done miracles, I´m still a woman with out curves.. although this is the first corset that I make for me, will not be the last, but ir there are many other corsets that I stitched in my life, you can see a small sample here.

But I think this is the beginning of a new romance, I want to play with patterns and try new proportions, perhaps add more slack to hop to give volume, even one that covers the entire torso for use just on my skin... thousand ideas in my head, as always...

Now I need to "decorate" the one to cheer a little , looking for something to give life... the results tomorrow.

Por ahora, esto el lo que tengo, el corset no ha hecho milagros, sigo siendo una mujer sin curvas... aunque este es el primer corsé que hago para mi, no va a ser el último; sin embargo, si hay muchos otros corsés que he cosido a lo largo de mi vida, usted puede ver una pequeña muestra aquí.

Much of my energy is spent on recycling, Do you know the feeling of seeing a garment on the hanger and imagine a different one from the first one?

This happens to me constantly, there are tons of clothes that are waiting for the remodeling that takes so long to arrive, sometimes it´s just a button or a zipper that broke at some point, sometimes are garments that have completed one full cycle wait patiently for a little cosmetic surgery to look again at its best... and sometimes they´re clothes that I bought in a moment of inspiration and thought "Hey, this skirt would be great if I convert it into a vest.. or that dress would look great as a skirt..."

Buena parte de mi energía es gastada en el reciclaje,... Conoces la sensación de ver una prenda en la percha e imaginar otra diferente a partir de la primera??
Esto me sucede constantemente, en mi cueva de costura hay toneladas de prendas de vestir esperando esa remodelación que tarda tanto en llegar, a veces es simplemente un botón, o una cremallera que se rompió en algún momento; otras veces son prendas completas que han cumplido un ciclo y esperan pacientemente un poco de cirugía estética para volver a lucir en todo su esplendor... y otras veces son prendas que se compraron en un momento de inspiración y pensar "Hey, esta falda estaría genial si la convierto en un chaleco... o ese vestido luciría fantástico como falda.."

Well, this is exactly what happened when I found this jersey knit dress in a thrift store, the dress could be loved by a romantic teenager, surely someone of my age haven´t noticed it but when I saw it as abandoned, I thought quickly about the picture printed on the fabric , it could be more fun on a winter skirt, so I took it with me at home.

Pues esto es lo que pasó exactamente cuando yo encontré este vestido de punto jersey en una tienda de segunda mano, el modelito podría ser amado por alguna adolescente romántica, seguramente alguien de mi edad no repararía en él pero cuando yo lo vi tan abandonado, pensé rapidamente que ese dibujo estampado en la tela podía ser más divertido en una falda de invierno, así que yo lo traje conmigo a casa.

You can imagine how short was the dress if you see that I cut off flush with pit armhole to fit my waist, I really put on my dress and took a picture so that you could see the before and after, but let me tell, dear reader, that this photo went straight to the trash virtual, to save such a grotesque image. The full dress barely covered the tops of my thighs, so I thought it was much better for my self-esteem that this sad image es readily erased from my memory. My dignity will be safe as well.

Puedes imaginarte lo corto que era el vestido si observas que yo corté de tajo a ras de la sisa para ajustar a mi cintura, realmente yo me puse el vestido y saqué una foto para que pudieses apreciar el antes y el después, pero déjame decirte, querido lector que la foto fue directamente a la papelera virtual para ahorrarte tan grotesca imagen. El vestido completo apenas cubría la parte superior de mis muslos, así que yo pensé que era mucho mejor para mi autoestima que esa triste imagen sea prontamente borrada de mi memoria. Mi dignidad estará a salvo, así.

The funny thing is that this poject gathered skirt, comes fully recycled parts from other items, there´s nothing new in it except the elastic waist.

Lining is essential for the skirt for feeling soft at my skin and it does not hold on to my legs when I wear stockings with it. This lining got it from another skirt that was useless in my pile of projects waiting for the opportunity to be helpful. I wanted to add a strip of lace at hem to simulate a slip, like our grandmothers used, this lace strip also comes from some old garment, you can see that it´s full of tiny threads of any previous use.

Lo más divertido de este proyecto es que la falda obtenida finalmente viene de piezas completamente recicladas de otras prendas, no hay nada nuevo en ella a excepción del elástico de la cintura.
El forro indispensable para que la falda de punto sea suave para mi piel y no se agarre a mis piernas cuando yo use medias con ella. Este forro lo obtuve de otra falda inservible que estaba en mi pila de proyectos esperando la oportunidad de ser útil. Yo quise añadir una tira de encaje en el dobladillo del forro para simular una combinación (zagalejo), como las que usaban nuestras abuelas, este encaje también proviene de alguna vieja prenda, puedes ver que está lleno de pequeños hilos de algún uso anterior.

So, this is the skirt finished, it has same drawing panel on the back and it´s now a thoroughly enjoyable piece to use, like a caress on my skin thanks to the soft lining.

Therefore, this is the beginning of a project to end all those clothes that accumulate in a corner of my sewing room, if everything goes so, at least , once a week I´ll add a garment that needs relatively rapid remodeling and some how ends up in things that take even years to come out of hiding.

Así que esta es la falda terminada, el panel del dibujo es igual en la espalda de la falda y ahora es una prenda totalmente agradable de usar, como una caricia en la piel gracias al suave forro.
Por lo tanto, esto es el principio de un proyecto para acabar con todas esas prendas que se acumulan en un rincón de mi cuarto de costura, si todo sigue su camino, por lo menos una vez a la semana voy a añadir alguna prenda que necesita un remodelado relativamente rápido y por alguna razón termina convirtiéndose en cosas que tardan incluso años en salir del escondite.

"Colorful Autumn" Skirt

Finally, this morning I was wearing all the items together as I had planned yesterday... sometimes happens that when I sew a garment separately as a skirt or blouse and I imagine clothes that I have in my wardrobe to matching it, then when I take this into practice I have a little disappointment... simply it was not as I imagined, however, this outfit met all my expectations, it´s bright and perfect for fall; in the evening, when it´s cold, I can use a gray cardigan and it still maintain the essence of the look, so I can say that I´m really satisfied this time.

It´s been a long journey of mind to reach this skirt, ... when I bought this fabric for something that included orange color to the challenge of Sew Weekly, plaids inspired me at first a coat, then I thought a beautiful cap, more then perhaps a dress... to finish in a skirt.

Accessorizing Halloween...

Alguna vez te pasó que tienes una idea que llega a convertirse en obsesión???
Pues la idea de este bolso me tenía completamente obsesionada desde el año pasado por estas mismas fechas... yo sabía exactamente lo que quería para lucir en la noche de Halloween, todo comenzó cuando yo encontré un pequeño broche en forma de araña en una tienda... entonces pensé que estaría genial sobre un bolso con una telaraña bordada con hilos de plata... pero el tiempo se consumió en otras cosas y la idea estuvo durmiendo en mi cabeza hasta este Halloween, yo no podía dejar escapar otra vez....

En realidad, esto era un trozo de tela que compré Dios sabe cuando, quizá más de diez años atrás ... yo sabía en el momento que la compré que no estaba destinada a un vestido o blusa, una maravillosa seda en color rosa que me recuerda irremediablemente al "algodón de azúcar" que comía en mi niñez... así que el retal era tristemente pequeño y yo tuve que ajustar mucho para conseguir este romantico "salto de cama", (que nombre tan divertido)... por lo tanto, sin bolsillos y un dobladillo en la manga son las diferencias con el original...

Las Sunday, while hubby and me was walking in the old part of town, looking for somewhere place for photos of my last post, I got a little scare.. I came across this scene from we were walking away, my first thought when I saw the man lying on the ground and people around him was an accident!!
Fortunately a few steps later, I understood the situation... a group of Germans taking pictures of a model... perhaps to an advertisement or for any fashion magazine...

Algo que mi mente asocia irremediablemente con la década de los 40s es, sin duda, pantalones de pernera ancha...

Aunque, indudablemente... los pantalones de pernera ancha me trae a la mente rostros como Catherine Hepburn. Rita Hayworth... o la maravillosa Greta Garbo....
Nada puede ser más inspirador que ver a Catherine tejiendo para asociar el sueter que yo hice en el último post y un pantalón de pernera ancha que ya está sobre mi mesa de costura...

Sweater taste 40s ... or 50s!?

To not bore you much, today I bring the sweater taht I had begun to knitting from time immemorial (yes, I know.. I´m very slow knitting). However, I wanted to finish this in order to use it in the early fall...

This has been a simple project such that you can have in your hands while watching a movie on TV ... anyway, the model has been changing while sweater progressed... if at first I thought it like half knitting and half crochet, then I thought it looked better all knitting and with a collar.

I think now that this sweater is very versatile... it has a slight taste of the sweaters ´40s, and I think can get this look if I sew a camel color pants like those pants worn by women in this decade, high waist and wide leg, perhaps with a turn out at the hem... and Oxford shoes... Oh, yeah.. this would be perfect!!

Although I think it also can look good with a slight taste of the 50s , if I sew a skirt with the style of this decade , also camel color... and shoes with thin heels... Oh... Decisions, decisions....

I´m very rushed... My mother tells that when she went to a store with me very little, and bought a dress for me... I always left the store wearing my new dress.. and my mother had to keep in a bag the clothes that I wore when entered the store.

"Dreams Lavender" Dress

Indeed, I showed a photo taken from my balcony at half past six in the morning on my last post and say that this picture inspired me to a new project. First of all, I want to apologize for the unintentional kick that I gave the English language in the commentary on that photo of sunrise... really it was the dawn, not the sunset as I did understand to all.... sorry!!
That said, I want to congratulate to Shannon, for her mental acuity to discover that was beautiful colors of the photo where I had found inspiration for my new proyect.

This model is a pattern from Burda Style, May/ 2011 ,# 128.
Actually it´s a nice model and I know many of us have it on our wish list... just the back of the model is not highly desired by may of us.
So I would not resign and made some alterations in the pattern to adjust the back like a normal dress and get the dress of my dreams lavender...
I know that some seamstresses who I admire deeply as Ana Jan Jan (to take an example) made this dress and also implemented changes in the pattern to do the same.

So much better.... the original pattern shows a seam on the center back taht I now become a two darts, eliminating the seam...
Notice that the camera gets different shades of purple color as the dress I made photos inside or outside... I have to say that the original color is showing exterior photos, the other show color distorted by the flash.

And of course, the focus and reason for my desire is the beautiful collar of this dress...

I could not think of this dress without a few sprigs of lavender as the centerpiece of the entir outfit, so I had to leave a "footprint" of this design in the dress...

I painted the lavender bouquet design on the collar, with textile paint first and then I embroidered the contour of the bows to highlight them and small lavender flowers with knot stitch, I´m very excited about the result. If you want paint fabrics, here´s a tutorial.
This dress is part of a trilogy that focuses on the design, so is the dress "Lavender Dreams"...

"Two Hours" Skirt...

It was time to give another push to the challenge raised by our lovely Gina, it´s to get a "partner" for all those clothes hanging in our closet that we do not use because they don´t go well with everything else....

So I had this beautiful top spot in my closet for a while and I decided to close that gap.

For starters, I found this little piece of plaids fabric in my stash, it was a very small piece left over from some previous project, so I had to find a way to get something with this....

This was really easy and fast, only took me two hours to cut and sew it. The base was cut off the top of a pencil skirt pattern, like a peplum... and add the rest of the fabric by making small folds, so fast...

And the next day morning I was already using it, another suit in my wardrobe , Yeah!!!

Now a little secret... I get up at half past six in the morning, I found this great picture from my balcony when I got a few days ago.... I promise yu that this photo is not retouched, it´s as it´s picked up the camera and ... I knew that I had found the perfect inspiration for my next project...

Today I decided to take a bright spark of color to a cloudy day! So I am wearing my dress, "Liz Claiborne inspiration", this dress was sewn from a Burda pattern that is very famous among the users of the Burda magazine elegant lines. I chose bright red accessories to smile to this day, although you may see me with a wrinkled face ... the instantaneous play tricks, but I assure you that I was smiling seconds before!

Another bright day ... You can see my weakness for bright colors throughout this month, I use some black and muted colors .. and when I use them, I like to give a touch of color too. Today I am wearing the skirt that stopped being a UFO to become part of this outfit, with my petticoat underneath to get a touch of the 60s.
Although not very visible in the photo, so you can see on the horizon is the sea, today dawned cloudy and the picture is made at eight in the morning, however, temperatures pleasant to wear short sleeves this time.

"Pretty Woman" Dress

Along with the dress of hearts, two posts earlier, I also sewed another dress for my friend, this is simpler and it was used for a small performance in which my friend imitated "Pretty Woman".

I had very little time to get some pictures of the dress that Julia Roberts wore in the movie, so I had to settle for some photos found on internet to get a dress similar to the original. There was also trouble to finding the right fabric, all I could get was this silk polyester with polka dots uneven, but I had to settle for this lack of time to find something more suitable.

Although I´m not sure of the details of the original model, so I had to improvise a bit about this... small folds on the neck line, finished with bias strips of the same fabric.
On the back, I added an invisible zipper that ends before reaching the neck. So I can leave an opening for a button, this opening is called "tear" in Spanish, but I do not know the denomination of it in English, Can you help me, about this?? Please.

Finally, I could not attend the performance of my friend, so there is no photos of the active event.... Sorry.
You will have to settle for a image that I made on the day I gave the dress to her home...

I commented in the last post that I had accumulated many things to tell, so today I can show something that I sewed last week in some spare time.
This was something really quick for shown here, you shoud be aware that the dress is´nt ironed in this photos, so wrinkled seams, but you can get the idea....

So I´m going to put you in situation... I was invited to a party with the theme of ´60s style in a nearby town and a friend asked me to sew a dress for she at that party, so I laid hands on and began to sew a petticoat first of all to place under the dress as is characteristic of this model.

The fabric chosen by the recipient of this dress was original enough alone, she asked for a collar like this dress that I sewed time ago, but combining the print of hearts with solid fabric in the same range of color.

To achieve the effect of the hem of the skirt, I sewed it on a strip of fabric (stitched with long stitches) respecting the circular shape of the skirt.

Then, on the wrong side of the hem, go with a pencil drawing as a template to complete the entire bottom. Thus, for the same wrong side to spend a stitch along the line drawn with pencil ... in this way, you get the picture of the workforce by the righ side of the fabric, the right.

Now that you have two layers of fabric held together by the stitching, first passing a small zig-zag stitch to securely hold two layers.
Trim the excess of fabric at the top with a sharp scissors and unpick the first stitch longer that you made at first in the top of the blue fabric to release it.
Finally, spend again a zig-zag stitch too tight around the undulating contour of the drawing. Be especially careful not to wrinkle the fabric to sew, the effect is very nice, ... or you can sew by hand over a strip of trimming to cover the union of the fabrics.

Either way, the result is very nice and different to give an original touch to the bottom of any dress or skirt.

Well, the dress is officially released, it was last Friday night, really ... but I had no time to upload this post .
So basically, now I have many posts back that show you of everything that happened during the weekend , if no new obstacles in my way... I will be able to go up gradually throughout the week, but now...

The dress was very comfortable to use, I had some reservations about the comfort of the sleeves, but finally it was a winner.

Few accessories in this outfit, to let the dress is the center of attention. However, I discovered that the brooch I made here, it makes good matching with the dress, so I wore it also as a small detail.

I want to thank you all again for your kind comments, I have not been good blogger these last days, but now I promise to catch up with you, with a little patience, I will be able to reach everyone.

"Peggy Olson" dress ... details. (Mad Men)

First of all, I want to apologize for my "disappearance" of this world blogger, life sometimes crosses the road and you have to give way to it. Now that everything is back to normal....
So I have made since last Sunday the dress that Peggy Olson, it appears in episode ten in the second season of Mad Men.
Of course, with some changes to get me to be more comfortable and adapt it to my tastes and lifestyle needs...

If you´ve read this blog for some time, remember that I told the "war" that gave the zipper... I guess I did not have a good day, so the third attempt, I gave it as valid, although you can see that the line of plaids has a few millimeters of deviation from the alignment of them, well... I can live with this, I guess...

If you have vintage sewing patterns once, you´ve probably seen this kind of sleeves on some clothes , this way of making the sleeves is currently unused, but in the 50s and 60s, this was quite usual, so I respected form, Also, I cut the seeves hem a bit, to ensure comfort that I need and can wear the dress in the climate that I live.

The dress has a fold at the front side that ends in a fold of ventilation, the buttons are sewn very well... because they are the bond between the fabrics of this fold, you can see that I stick my fingers between them, however, this fold is sewn inside... so there is no danger that a button "jump" and display unwanted areas of the body.

Another thing, I smoothed the sides of the collar, they end up in peaks in the original dress, but this isn´t to my liking, so I made these rounder.

When I saw this dress for the first time in Mad Men and some pictures, one detail caught my attention immediately, plaids are discontinuous in the original dress.. You can see that they aren´t alinged as expected in a well-sewn dress.. I first thought maybe this was because it was impossible to align as many pieces of dress and plaids remain perfect in every game...
However, you can see that my dress is fully alinged... so I´m clueless on this point...
The only explanation I can think of is that the designer did this, intentionally to highlight the fold of the buttons....

And as a final point... Of course, my dress will be more baggy on me... I need to wear this dress in my daily life, including walking, sitting, working, driving, breathing (hey, this is important) and much more... basically be comfortable.. I envy so much the stylized figure of Peggy Olson in this dress... but this isn´t for me....
So soon will come photos that I wearing this dress....

Assuming that the fashion of twenty years ago is retro... and thirty or forty years ago is vintage... then, the fashion about two centuries ago... What is it????
Well, this is an outfit that "recreates" the fashion of two centuries ago on my island, women dressed just like that of 1800 here,, so this is the "Traditional Canarian Costume".
This is because today is a holiday on the island, as we celebrate the patron saints of the island "La Virgen del Pino".
During these days is a tradition to walk from all sites of the island until the middle of it, where is the Basilica (Temple) that "lives" the Virgen del Pino. And people dressed in traditional costumes of the island, which are varied, mine is only a model of it, but there is much variety of clothing and all beautiful.

The outfit consists of several overlapping pieces, a linen blouse and a petticoat of cotton, up goes the skirt ... this skirt is made of wool fabric and has about five meters in overall width, so it´s quite heavy.

I sewed this costume for ten years ago and it´s totally respects the way that the ancient inhabitants of the island made this clothing, the buttons of the blouse are made with a piece of tape rolled up on itself and stiched, and the waist of the skirt is covered with honeycomb stitch to make the pleat.
Observe how to adjust the skirt without zippers or buttons.

Then, the vest that is made of "rich" damask fabric and lined of linen... and apron, of course!!

And finally, the shawl on the head and hat to hold it. Cover hair was very important to be "decent"...
Do this sound like something to you???
I decided to "enrich" a little my shawl making a nice embroidered on the back of it.

So this was my day today, a little incomfortable with the heat, but this is a tradition not to be missed, but I wonder... if my ancestors were dresses like this every day... How the hell that endured the heat????

Jumble of a couple of days

If the Saturday, I spent the day at the beach... on Sunday, hubby and I decided that we wanted something in nature and went for a walk to the villages in the center of the island, the surprise was that it rained, so it was good change weather, although it was very hot, really.
The outfit that I chosen for this tour was very rokcabilly.... and I was very happy because I was wearing five things made with my hands.

Although you can´t see it, I was wearing a petticoat bearing my initials embroidered and dogtooth skirt here, broock crochet cherries included tutorial is here and although not seen in the photo, the hair clip too here.

The fifth element is the crochet bag that I made so long time ago, before I started writing this blog, so there is´nt link to it.

On Monday, back to the weekly routine, so a quick photo on the edge of the way home after work. I´m wearing the dress that I sewed here, crochet bag here, if you look a bit, this bag and the black bag of Sunday, was made with the same pattern of crochet.
I´m also wearing earrings that I made with buttons here.

Meanwhile, I´m still tangled up with my dress Peggy Olson , the back of the dress is complete. I got some pictures of the episode where I see this dress for that I see it from all angles.
In principle, the zipper on the back... My God!! This was a toodhache ... I redid it three times, the plaids were not aligned, so the third I gave up... yes.
Of course, I sewed an invisible zipper on the dress, although some seamstresses who sew the zippers like the same way as was done in that time.

I respect all these ways of make it, but for me... is the same as if I now wash all the clothes by hand, existing washing machines that do this for me...
Or just as if I ironed clothes as my mother did, heating the iron on the kitchen stove and splashing clothes with water, when there are wonderful steam irons now...

This is just a personal opinion and I repeat that I respect and admire the way each person chooses to do things simply.. . I want to dressing to have a vintage look with contemporary advances taht the industry offers today.

What do a very hot day off .....

Yes, I´m on day three, Saturday ... that means... not working.. day off, so... BEACH!
The usual living on an island, is a delicious day by the sea, which gives me the opportunity to wear the bikini that I sewed in May last year, well ... it´s a garment sewn, so it serves well for this SSS´11.
Although my age and my figure marred by motherhood, is´nt a good incentive for posing in a bikini, I finally dared a photo for you to make sure that I was using this garment today, however with a short to avoid my own shame.
